Yorkshire Tea

[Anna Esslemont]

Anna Esslemont sang her song Yorkshire Tea on Uiscedwr’s 2006 album Circle. A live recording of the Uiscedwr Big Band from Banbury Folk Festival 2008 was released in the same year on their album Naked and Dangerous.

This video shows Uiscedwr perform Yorkshire Tea at Fiddlers Ggreen in Alland near Vienna, Austria, on 2 July 2009:

Lyrics

Anna Esslemont sings Yorkshire Tea

I’m drinking Yorkshire tea,
Ain’t nobody gonna come and bother me
I’m sitting at the window staring out at the hills.
No fear, no need to run,
Ain’t nobody shooting with a stolen gun
There’s peace and there’s purpose,
Karma’s finally caught up with us,
And I feel so damn lucky to be here.

Chorus (after each verse):
Moving on, moving up, moving out, moving here, moving there,
Gotta pack the van, let’s go.

Five yaks and seven horses,
Feed ’em grass and stroke their backs
Of course it’s easy to be optimistic
When you’re in the country.
I haven’t heard a single siren,
Seen a hooded youth or a young mum crying
There’s life, and there’s enterprise
And plenty more besides
And I feel so damn lucky to be here.

I’ve walked the Meltham Way,
Doesn’t even matter that it rained all day,
There’s plenty of time left for the sun
To come on out and shine.
Realistic trick or treats,
They don’t want money they want cake and sweets
I’ll answer calls to my front door,
I’m not scared any more
And I feel so damn lucky to be here.
