Eastern Rain

Eastern Rain is a song by Joni Mitchell, copyrighted on 19 June 1967. It can be found on her 2020 anthology Archives Volume One: The Early Years (1963-1967).

Sandy Denny and Ian Matthews sang Eastern Rain on Fairport Convention’s 1969 album What We Did On Our Holidays; Simon Nicol played autoharp.

They also sang in with Fairport Convention on their BBC “Top Gear” radio broadcast on 26 August 1968. Incredibly, the group manages to recreate the sound of the studio version in this basically live performance. This recording was also inclucded in 1985 on Richard Thompson’s cassette compilation, Doom and Gloom From the Tomb.
