Mr Lacey

Ashley’s appreciation of a weird British “scientist”. Sandy and Ian Matthews share the vocals; Prof Bruce Lacey and machines also appear. The studio version appears on What We Did On Our Holidays, on The History of Fairport Convention and on the double CD album Meet On The Ledge: The Classic Years 1967-1975.

There are several live recordings known:

  1. A Dutch television broadcast of mid-September 1968 was released in 2002 on the Fairport unConventioNal 4CD set.

  2. A BBC radio version from the “Night Ride” programme on 25 November 1968 is not available.

  3. A recording of 2 December 1968 for BBC’s Stuart Henry Show appeared on the Richard Thompson collection, (Guitar, Vocal).

Fairport recorded a rather out of place version of this on their 1979 live album Farewell, Farewell. More live versions are on The Other Boot (1986) and on the 1997 Cropredy Box.
