Sir B. McKenzie
[Swarbrick, Thompson, Nicol, Mattacks]
Sandy does not play on this instrumental which was recorded during the sessions for Fairport’s Full House album, and released as the B-side of their single Now Be Thankful under its full name, Sir B. McKenzie’s Daughter’s Lament for the 77th Mounted Lancers Retreat from the Straights of Loch Knombe on the Occasion of the Announcement of her Marriage to the Laird of Kinleakie. This version is different from its predecessor in terms of the tunes composing the instrumental. A portion of this version appears on The Electric Muse. An even eariler version called Tunes My Mother Taught Me from a BBC live performance from 12 November 1970 was included in the Dave Swarbrick anthology Swarb!.
However, two live versions were recorded in 1974 when both Sandy and Trevor were in the band. They appeared on Fairport’s Live album and on the bonus CD of the album Before The Moon. Another live recording probably from 31 October 1975 at Brunel University, Uxbridge is on the CD Who Knows? The Woodworm Archives Vol. 1.
A version recorded live in Glasgow in 1976 was released in 2002 on the Fairport unConventioNal 4CD set and a Cropredy version on The Boot - 1983 Fairport Reunion.
