Somewhere in London
Somewhere in London / Lanercost Flutterby FLUT 1 (single, p/s, UK, November 1985) |
[Peter Knight]
This song was released in November 1985 as a single with the B-side Lanercost and in May 1986 on Steeleye’s thirteenth album, Back in Line. The Shanachie reissues of this record skip this song, however.
As can be seen on the London map on the album cover above, “Somewhere” is the Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, where Steeleye gave a stirring end-of-year concert in 1985.
Lyrics
Steeleye Span sing Somewhere in London
Chorus (after each verse):
We’ll be somewhere in London at the end of the year
We’ll just be drinking that old year out
And the new year in
We’ll be somewhere in London at the end of the year
We’ll just be drinking that old year out
And the new year in
We said what do you want?
They said we want a song
They said away you go, you’ve got to write it tonight
And we’ll cover it with snow if it starts to sound alright
Isn’t it exciting, maybe we’ve got whatever it is
That lucky touch they don’t want much
Keep it running, with no one behind us
Now we’re running, so no one can find us
Chorus
They said what do you mean?
We said we know what you want
You want a song that’s fun, that everybody will play
You want a number one, you’d prefer it yesterday
Isn’t it exciting, maybe we’ve got whatever it is
To make us rich we’ve come unstiched
Keep it running, with no one behind us
Now we’re running, so no one can find us
Chorus
