Mairi Campbell: Storm
Storm Greengold Music (CD, UK, 26 March 2021) |
Storm is the latest in a series of works from Mairi Campbell and long-time collaborator Dave Gray, now seeing Campbell realising the voice and music of Storm, a mythical goddess of the sea.
The giant Vision Mechanics puppet was designed by Kim Bergsagel and Symon MacIntyre and fabricated from recycled and recyclable materials standing ten metres tall. Brought to life by no less than ten puppeteers, Storm celebrates Scotland’s unique coastal and marine environment while raising awareness of the crucial role they play in mitigating climate change.
“David Gray and I were asked to create the score for her epic journey across Scotland. Our songs and instrumentals reflect Storm’s cry of frustration, her wisdom, deep love of the sea and ultimately her cry for help. As I write this we are in the days of Winter lockdown 2021. These are stormy days indeed.”— Mairi Campbell
