Field recordings made along the Eastern Seaboard between 1940 and 1966. Material from 1940 was recorded on a Wilcox Gay Recordio disk recorder. Songs from 1941-46 came from a battery-powered disk recorder developed by Philco for the Warners. Thereafter, field recordings were made on a variety of reel-to-reel tape recordings.
