2025 Notes
“This album comprises 24 English dance tunes and marches from the manuscript of one man Isiah Walton who lived in Kirk Langley in Derbyshire and played fife in the Belper Local Militia Band around 1814.”
Or so wrote Ian ‘Tufty’ Swift on the sleeve notes to this album in 1985. Newer research casts doubt on the source of Isiah Walton, but what is know is all of these tunes appear in the manuscript of a James Oldfield, of the Belper Militia, dated 1808. 40 years on it is thought fitting to reissue this lost album to make these wonderful tunes available once again, and to celebrate the legacy of Tufty Swift.
