Karen Matheson - One More Chance

The first time I heard Karen sing One More Chance was at Capercaillie's concert at the Celtic Connections Festival - Glasgow 1994. I remember enjoying the song on which Karen was accompanied on keyboard by her husband Donald Shaw. The number became a favourite in Capercaillie's show for about three years, although it was not included in the set list for the last tour. When played live Karen more often than not introduced it as a Sandy Denny song. On speaking to Karen about where she came accross the track she told me it was on The Attic Tracks CD. She also told me that she is the very proud owner of a little piece of musical history- the lyrics of the track in Sandy's own hand writing. They were presented to her by Sandy's family while Capercaillie were on tour in Australia.

The recorded version of One More Chance is on Karen's solo album The Dreaming Sea and is markedly different. She is accompanied on guitar by James Grant of Love and Money fame. James also plays bass and I detect some of Gerry O Conner's banjo playing in there as well. As to which of Karen's interpretations of the song is best - I am going to sit on the fence and say I like them both!!!!!

There we go - I know Karen is very proud to have covered the song and the nice comments from Sandy's family.
