Milk and Honey

[Jackson C. Frank]

Jackson C. Frank’s original version of his song was released in 1965 on his eponymous LP Jackson C. Frank.

There are several Sandy Denny versions of this song. The first one was recorded on 6 March 1967 for the “Cellar Full of Folk” BBC radio programme and made available in 1989 on the cassette The Attic Tracks Vol. 3.

Another recording from a session with Johnny Silvo on 22 March 1967 was originally released in the same year on Sandy and Johnny. On this version she is accompanied by double bass, giving the song a fuller sound. This track was reissued in 1977 on the German Nova compilation LP Sandy Denny, later on The Original Sandy Denny, and in 2005 on Where the Time Goes.

An alternative recording from the same session was included in 1970 on the Saga compilation LP Sandy Denny and—for the first time on CD—in 2005 on Where the Time Goes, together with the previous version.

Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker sang Milk and Honey on their 2016 album Overnight. This video shows them at Twickfolk, in the Cabbage Patck in Twickenham on 28 January 2018:
