Take Away the Load (Sandy’s Song)
[Sandy Denny]
This song was written by Sandy for Dave Swarbrick and his then wife. Swarbrick retitled it Sandy’s Song and recorded it on the lack-lustre Fairport album, Gottle O’ Geer. Sandy recorded a demo of this song at home in Byfield in March 1976; she accompanied herself on 12 string guitar. This track was released on the Who Knows Where the Time Goes and (with a few words of chat at the beginning) on the bonus CD of the Fledg’ling Sandy Denny anthology A Boxful of Treasures.
Cover Versions
- Fairport Convention on their album Gottle O’ Geer (1976)
- Keiko Walker on her EP Love Songs (1997)
Paul Metsers also composed a Sandy Denny tribute with the same title, Sandy’s Song, and recorded it for his first album, Caution to the Wind.
