A Boxful of Treasures
A Boxful of Treasures Fledg’ling Records NEST 5002 (4+1 CD, UK, 11 October 2004) |
This 5 CD set was compiled by David Suff and music historian Tim Chacksfield. Four CDs trace Sandy’s career with many rare and previously unreleased songs including
- Silver Threads and Golden Needles (a previously unknown session out-take from Fotheringay),
- Losing Game (a previously unreleased duet with Jess Roden),
- She Moves Through the Fair (duet with Dave Swarbrick live in Los Angeles),
- many alternative takes and early demo versions.
A fifth bonus CD with mainly demo versions is supposed to be only included with the first pressing.
The 56 page full colour booklet has a foreword by Richard Thompson (which was to be the foreword to Pamela Murray winter’s unpublished Sandy Denny biography), a biographical essay by Jim Irvin (remember his Sandy Denny article in MOJO June 1998?) and a coda by Dick Gaughan. It contains many rare and previously unpublished photographs, drawings and lyrics from Sandy’s notebooks and full discographical track details.
