The Music Weaver
[Sandy Denny, Chris McGregor]
This song is apparently about Richard Thompson. There are several versions of this song; Sandy played piano on all of them:
- Sandy recorded a demo version at The Manor, Oxfordshire in spring 1972 where she accompanied herself on piano. This version was included in the Who Knows Where the Time Goes box set.
- A second demo recording from the same session was released on the bonus CD of the Fledg’ling Sandy Denny anthology A Boxful of Treasures.
- The studio version, which was augmented by Harry Robinson’s string arrangement, was released on Sandy’s second solo album, Sandy and later in 2004 on her 5CD anthology A Boxful of Treasures.
- A live studio recording from 25 October 1972 for the BBC Radio 1 show “Sounds of the Seventies”, hosted by Bob Harris, was broadcast on 20 November 1972 and published both on the 1997 CD The BBC Sessions 1971-73 and on the 3CD+DVD set Live at the BBC of 2007.
- The Live at the BBC box set contains a further live recording from November 1972 for the BBC Radio 1 show “Sounds on Sunday”, hosted by Johnny Moran, and broadcast on 3 December 1972.
