Lord Rothschild
[trad. arr. Mike Waterson]
Mike Waterson sang Lord Rothschild in 1977 on his album Mike Waterson. A.L. Lloyd laconically commented in the sleeve notes:
Ludibrious levity at the Hollywood Beboppers’ Ball. Mick Taylor imparted this one to Mike.
Andy Turner learned Lord Rothschild from Mike Waterson’ album and sang it as part of the 6 August 2015 entry of his project A Folk Song a Week.
Lyrics
Mike Waterson sings Lord Rothschild
If you think I’m Lord Rothschild you’re greatly mistaken
Boys I’m not Lord Rothschild at all
I’m just wearing this dress suit because I’ve been lately
Attending the Hollywood Beboppers’ Ball
I was waltzing around with Matilda
When I asks her if she could reverse
Then I trod on some ice I touched the floor about twice
But I did have some fun at the ball
Now me trousers were split and I just couldn’t sit
And I couldn’t find needle nor twine
Till a nice little old lady with a large tin of blacking
She blacked off the white parts behind
I was waltzing around with Matilda
When I asks her if she could reverse
Then I trod on some ice I touched the floor about twice
But I did have some fun at the ball
So they tell me
I did have some fun at the ball
