The Piper’s Path

[Lal Waterson, Christine Collins]

Christy Moore learned The Piper’s Path “from the singing of the late Lal Waterson who wrote it with the late Christine Collins.” He recorded it with with Dónal Lunny on bouzouki and Declan Sinnott on guitar for his 2001 album This Is the Day. This recording was also added in 2002 to Lal’s tribute album Shining Bright: The Songs of Lal & Mike Waterson.

Freya Abbott Ferguson sang The Piper’s Path in 2011 on their CD Get Well Soon.

Lyrics

Christy Moore sings The Piper’s Path

Down the Piper’s Path we followed the Winter’s sun
On his frosty ride or Autumn’s frosty pride
And the piper by my side took his tune from Winter’s mouth
And played it back to the racing clouds

Through waves of copper trees we followed the purple trees
Past the speckled hen and the seaweed men
On down to the bay of soft weather days
That led us back to the racing ways

Wind and weather they told us all be done
All together they sang us a Winter’s song
And the piper by my side took his tunes from Winter’s mouth
And played them back to the racing clouds
