3:10 to Yuma

[George Dunning, Ned Washington]

This song was recorded in a session with Johnny Silvo on 22 March 1967 and originally released on Sandy and Johnny. It was reissued in 1977 on the German Nova compilation LP Sandy Denny. and later on The Original Sandy Denny, in 2004 on the 5CD Fledg’ling anthology A Boxful of Treasures. and in 2005 on Where the Time Goes. In contrast to This Train, this one is sung more quietly and with better accompaniment and so falls more into the Sandy Denny style. Here she is accompanied by double bass.

An alternative recording from the same session was included in the Saga compilation LP Sandy Denny and - for the first time on CD - in 2005 on Where the Time Goes, together with the first version.

A radio recording from the BBC broadcast “The Johnny Silvo Folk Four” on 7 November 1966 is not available on LP or CD.

Note: 3:10 to Yuma is also the title of a classic Western (1957) by Delmer Daves, starring Van Heflin and Glenn Ford.
